I have just spent two super nights at Ravenseat Farm in Swasedale Yorkshire. Home to 'The Yorkshire Shepherdess' Some of you may have seen her on tv or read her book.
I stayed in the shepherds hut
it was really cosy, set in a field by a little stream with a small waterfall, it was so peaceful watching the birds, the shhep baa-ing, cows moo-ing and children playing.
It does have electric lights but no phone or internet connections, As you can see my log burner got going very quickly, I had a couple of little walks, did some crocheting (just learning ) and read my book.
so cosy at night and a comfy bed.
set in the middle of the dales, the veiws are spectacular. It is also near the Coast to Coast walking routes. As you can see, I had really nice weather again, (it went cold at night being so high up, but I was toastie warm )
Amanda and family are amazing, a real family that pulls together and with solid family values.
She has eight children with another due in July, How she finds the time to do what she does....... I wish I knew!!
cooking, washing, shopping (nearest villages 30 mins away with no big supermarkets) she bakes scones every day and serves cream tea's to visitors and walkers, She makes breakfast for residents in the hut (Ben Fogle stayed here when he did the tv programme)and carries to the hut on a tray.
She helps out on the farm, helps with lambing, and feeding animals, puts the baby on her back and walks the hills tending the sheep, She has just written her 2nd book, appeared on 2 programmes with Ade Edmundson and Ben Fogle. Everyone gets a very warm welcome here. The children are a real credit to them both. I visited Hawes on Tuesday, a quaint market town and so beautiful.
I had lunch at a local cafe above the Spar shop, good value and nice food.
On the way accross the dales I came upon 4 yurts, very busy with the walkers
I came home vis Kirkby Stephen and had a bimble round town and then made my way to Morecambe, Lunch here and a long stroll on the prom. I finished with a ride to Sunderland Point.
So calm and beautiful, nothing but a row of houses looking out to sea, but well worth visiting for a relaxing walk or contemplating life! 2 nights and 3 days of heaven!
Sorry it is photo heavy, it was so hard to decide which of the pics (from many) to leave out!
I hope you have had reasons to smile this week
